The project is generating a comprehensive genomic resourse of Solanaceae resistance ( R ) gene sequences of wild potato, tomato and pepper genomes (the SOLAR database). The resource is composed of physical and genetic maps and genomic sequences of R gene hotspots. The SOLAR resource includes new R genes for late blight resistance identified through genetic mining in wild potato genomes and R gene alleles identified through allelic mining strategies based on the recently isolated late blight resistance gene, RB. The project is also developing evolutionary models and bioinformatics tools, which will be used to identify resistance gene sequences that have the potential for durability and broad recognition capability.
